Chopper was back at the Duke again with another two Chelsea Legends. On the 10th February Ron was with Bobby Tambling and Paul Canoville. Bobby Tambling was Chelsea’s top goal scorer with 202 goals until Frank Lampard surpassed Bobby’s total in May. This was Bobby’s second visit to the Duke, with his last visit in November 2010 going down so well we ran out of time! Bobby was pleased to come back and managed to tell a few more stories and finish those questions as well as sign some more autographs. Paul Canoville, or ‘King Canners’, was Chelsea’s first ever black player. His autobiography, ‘Black & Blue’, is a must-read for all Chelsea fans. Canners had been keen to come to the Duke after being pestered by some old school supporters who want to quiz him on a number of items & issues! Paul duly obliged, with some stories quite eye-opening. It really was a great evening.
The evening was opened and compared by the ever popular MC Micky Pugh. Comedian Micky is a regular at the Duke and always has us in fits of laughter with his jokes and his ‘looking at life’ stories. Then both Bobby & Paul were on with Ron Harris telling stories of their playing days – both on and off the pitch. Then after the ‘always welcome’ hot buffet there was a star-on-a-stool Q&A session, where guests were asked questions on anything they like! A surprise in that Steve ‘Super Jock’ Finnieston was in the audience and also came up to the mic to give some stories! Some really great stories from these true Chelsea legends.
